Participation

The Student Showcase is an opportunity for all MYB dancers to gain experience on stage and show family and friends all they have accomplished during the year. However, the showcase is not mandatory. Please complete the form below by February 17 to indicate whether or not your dancer will be participating.

Rehearsals

Dancers will learn the choreography for their Showcase piece(s) in the last portion of their regularly scheduled weekly class(es). All dancers will learn the class piece, even if they are not participating in Showcase. Full rehearsals will take place on the dates listed below, and attendance is mandatory. A detailed schedule for each of these rehearsals will be provided closer to the date - most dancers won't need to be present for the entire rehearsal.

  • Extra class rehearsals may be required during the week of 6/1-6/4.
  • Mandatory rehearsals at MYB Studios:
    • Friday, May 29 5:00–6:30pm
    • Saturday, May 30, 2:00–3:30pm
    • Friday, June 5, 5:00 - 6:30pm
  • Mandatory Dress Rehearsal at Marian University Theatre:
    • Saturday, June 6, 1:00–3:00pm
Volunteering

There are no family volunteer requirements for the Student Showcase. However, parent assistance is appreciated with lobby decor, box office, concession, and rehearsal dancer supervision/costume assistance. Volunteer call-outs will be made in early spring.

Tickets and Other

Tickets are required for ALL audience members, including cast parents. General Admission $15. USBs of the performances and other items will be available for purchase. Dancers will not receive a complimentary USB for Showcase.

Showcase Participation Options

Your dancer may participate in any combination of offerings for classes they are enrolled in. Each piece will require a different costume and therefore a separate costume fee. Fees are listed in the table below, and full selections are listed in Studio Director.

Ballet Selections:

  • Joy of Dance, Creative Dance, Pre-Primary, and Primary A - Level 3A dancers may elect to do one or multiple class pieces
  • One piece is offered for Levels 3B - 6B (rehearsals will be held on Thursday evenings once Swan Lake choreography has been set)
  • One piece is offered for Boys Ballet
  • One piece is offered for Upper School Day Program (2B - 6B; rehearsal on Thursdays)
  • One piece is offered for Lower School Day Program (Primary A - 2A)

Fees

Production Fee

  • $50 per dancer (5% sibling discount); (provides for technical and administrative support)

Participation fee per piece

  • Covers costume cost and additional time spent with students by their teacher during production week (costumes belong to the dancer after the performance, with the exception of certain Soloist Initiative and upper school costumes which are rented from MYB). Dancers require a costume for each piece they are participating in.

Dancers not participating in the showcase will still learn the showcase choreography during regularly scheduled classes as part of their ongoing training.
Dancers must make every reasonable effort to attend all rehearsals. Final Rehearsals and Dress Rehearsals are mandatory (unless absence is excused by Artistic Directors due to illness).
The $50 Production Fee and Participation Fees per Piece are due with this form. Fees will be paid by registering in Studio Director.
